These outdoor North Carolina Festivals offer families lots of things to do ranging from live outdoor music to good food.

There's nothing more exciting than packing up the family and heading out for the day to attend a local festival. Residents in North Carolina know all about that, as the state is home to plenty of festival and other events. These attractions give visitors a chance to eat things like fried pickles, elephant ears and other scrumptious fattening items. Most festivals also display merchandise from local artisans and craftsmen. When deciding on somewhere memorable to take the family or even for a couples' night out, you may want to consider one of these North Carolina festivals.

Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Lock Norman Highland Games

This popular Scottish festival takes place April 15, 16 and 17 at Rural Hill in Huntersville, North Carolina. The Rural Hill Scottish Festival is widely-anticipated by all folks, whether they are Scottish or not, since there are things to do for everyone. There will be Celtic and Scottish music, pipes and dancing. Guests can go rock climbing, research their ancestry, as well as participate in athletic displays. There are also activities just for the kids.

Food Lion Speed Street

Charlotte, North Carolina, comes alive May 26, 27 and 28 for Food Lion Speed Street. Race fans and other people converge over the downtown area. This North Carolina festival focuses on NASCAR drivers, Charlotte Motor Speedway and other racing-themed events. There are also concerts, racing vendors and tons of good food. Some race car drivers are usually at Food Lion Speed Street signing autographs and speaking with visitors.

Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival

Tryon, North Carolina is home to this wonderful festival that showcases good eating with great music. BBQ lovers and music fans flock to the annual Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival that runs from June 10 - June 11 at Harmon Field. The popular event features barbeque competitions, car shows and attractions from local artisans. There is also the much anticipated Rubber Duckie River Race.

Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival

Shrimp lovers rejoice on August 13 and August 14 at this shrimptastic festival held in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina. People who love shrimp have their choice of attending many activities including the Queens Ball and the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival Parade. There are shrimp cooking contests, a beer and wine garden, arts and crafts and other events. Visitors can purchase food from local vendors while taking in the sites. Guests will also enjoy meeting the Festival Queen and her court.
