Many brides dream of having traditional church weddings and walking down the aisle to meet their grooms. Some people have found it hard to find a church to get married in, however, if the bride and groom are not members of that particular church. Luckily, there are several places to get married in the Charlotte area that are open to the public. The architecture in these locations is filled with history and includes features such as stained glass windows, gorgeous chandeliers and large well-lit sanctuaries. Individuals who want a beautiful, classical and spiritual-themed wedding may like one of these chapels.
St. Mary's Chapel
This popular chapel is located at 1129 East 3rd Street in downtown Charlotte. The inside of St. Mary's Chapel has stained glass windows and vibrant dark pews that offer a great color contrast. The historical church can easily fit about 100 guests but is not equipped to handle a reception. Upon booking, however, the bridal parties can get suggestions for local wedding vendors.
Little Church on the Lane
Another favorite place for brides to get married in Charlotte is Little Church on the Lane, which can be found at 528 Moravian Lane. The Moravian church has been around since 1920 and is a big part of the community. The interior of the church is reminiscent of a traditional older church with a beautiful landscaped exterior. Couples who choose to get married here can also take part in pre-marital counseling, as this is included with the wedding package.
Grace on Brevard
One of Charlotte's older churches situated at 219 South Brevard Street, this facility was built in 1902 and used to be A.M.E. Grace Zion Church. The church is now used for events such as weddings and other ceremonies. Brides will find the gorgeous Gothic Revival style of the church presents a breath-taking backdrop for weddings. Grace on Brevard can also accommodate large or small parties, receptions and rehearsal dinners.
The Great Aunt Stella Center
A local congregation used this building from 1914 until the late 1980's when financial problems caused the members to move to another location. A company purchased the church, which sits at 926 Elizabeth Avenue and turned it into a bustling social center. The center was named for Stella Vandalia Sparrow, a relative of one of the new owners. Guests at this wedding chapel in Charlotte will love the massive sanctuary, overlooking balcony and Italian glass windows. The Great Aunt Stella Center has amenities such as a baby grand piano, private dressing rooms, dance floor, kitchen area and reception hall.
Belk Chapel at Queens University
Brides and grooms who get married at the Belk Chapel can have a large wedding with up to 500 guests if need be. This beautiful chapel has been home to many Charlotteans' weddings. The Queens University campus is also a spectacular place for bridal portraits and other aspects of the ceremony. The chapel is near downtown Charlotte making it convenient for out of town guests.
