North Carolina festivals offers plenty for visitors to do and see ranging from festivals in the mountains to events near the beach. Whether you are local to the area or just coming in to visit, the fall is the perfect time to take in one of these celebrations. Individuals can admire the fall leaves, sample baked goods from vendors or sit and listen to some great bands. There are usually activities for adults and children including parades, carnival rides, and face painting. Some of these festivals in North Carolina just might be worth checking out.
Apple Fest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
People who love apples will find the Apple Fest to have almost every kind of apple delicacy that a person could want. In addition to regular apples, there will also be apple pie, apple fritters, apple dumplings, and apple cider to name a few. While at the festival, attendees can see cloggers, quilting, view original artwork and listen to several bands. Visitors who enjoy specialty goods can also shop for items such as homemade pottery, soap, and other crafts. This event takes place at Bethabara Park in Winston-Salem on September 17, 2011.
Scotland County Highland Games
Break out your kilts and get ready for some friendly competition at this Scottish event in Laurinburg, North Carolina. This popular festival takes place at the John Blue House on October 1, 2011. Visitors flock from all over to hear the pipes and drums, take in the bands, watch competitions such as the throwing of the caber, or participate in the children's foot race. The Scotland County Highland Games also feature a variety of vendors with everything from themed food to jewelry and attire.
Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down
There is no bigger discussion in North Carolina than who has the better barbeque and the answer will depend on who you ask and where they live. The people who live in the eastern part of the state would like to lay claim to that title and showcase off their barbeque at the fourth annual Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down held on October 7th and 8th, 2011. This much anticipated event takes place in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. While this is not a festival, it definitely has entertainment and a lot of great food. This cooking competition awards trophies, cash prizes and best of all bragging rights. People are invited whether they are cooking or sampling food such as ribs and chicken. There will also be kids' activities, music, and demonstrations.
When attending one of these events it is best to check the festival's rain policy if tickets are sold in advance should the festival be postponed for any reason. If traveling from out of town, it is also a good idea to find a place to stay early since hotels near the event will generally fill up fast.
